AI CONSULTING
Project work, not a subscription.
AI consulting for a specific problem with a clear start and finish. We scope it, I do the work, and it’s done.
It suits organizations that have a clear question, like which tool to choose, how to roll it out, or why a process isn’t working, and want a practical answer without committing to an ongoing program.
- Scoped up front
- Defined deliverable
- No recurring fee
TYPICAL WORK
What people bring to AI consulting
Most AI consulting requests fall into one of three shapes. Each one ends with something concrete you can use, not just a conversation.
Choosing a tool
Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini all do similar things on the surface, but they differ in where your data goes, how they fit with the software you already use, and what they cost per person. I compare the options against a specific workflow, so the decision rests on your work rather than a feature list.
WHAT YOU GET
A written recommendation, with the trade-offs and what adoption would involve.
Planning a rollout
Licences get bought, access gets switched on, and six months later most people have tried the tool once. If personal information is involved, the rollout plan also accounts for the generative AI privacy principles that Canada’s privacy regulators, including Alberta’s, published in 2023.
WHAT YOU GET
A phased rollout plan you can hand to IT and leadership.
Fixing one workflow
Sometimes the problem is one process: a report that takes days, an inbox that never empties, a document everyone rewrites from scratch. I map how it works today, find where AI genuinely helps, and rebuild that one piece without reworking everything around it.
WHAT YOU GET
The rebuilt process, documented, with the prompts or templates it relies on.
DIFFERENCES
Consulting or training?
Both start with the same free consult, but they solve different problems. AI consulting answers a specific question. Training builds day-to-day skill across your team over time.
CONSULTING
A defined outcome
- Shape: one problem, scoped and closed out
- Length: set at the start
- Value: the finished piece of work
- Best when: you have a decision to make or something specific to fix
TRAINING
An ongoing relationship
- Shape: one prepared session a month
- Length: as long as it’s useful
- Value: skills that build over time
- Best when: people have the tools but aren’t getting much out of them
They also work in sequence. An AI consulting engagement often settles the tool or the rollout plan first, and training picks up from there once people are using it.
HOW IT WORKS
Understand the problem before proposing a fix
The most common reason AI projects disappoint is solving the wrong problem well. So the first two steps are about getting the question right.
01
Talk it through
A free consult to get clear on the real problem, who it affects, and what a good result would look like.
Sometimes that conversation is enough on its own, and I’ll tell you if it is.
NO COST
02
Define the work
I send a short written scope: what’s included, what isn’t, the deliverables, and a rough timeline.
Nothing starts until we’ve both agreed to it, so there are no surprises halfway through.
WRITTEN SCOPE
03
Do the work
Focused, project-based delivery, with check-ins at the points where your input matters.
When it’s done, I hand everything over and close it out. There’s no ongoing fee or subscription.
ONE-TIME
No packages or tiers — every engagement is different, so scope and cost are set together after the consult and confirmed in writing before any work begins. If it turns out you need ongoing help, I’ll point you to Training or Governance rather than stretch a project to fit.
IN PRACTICE
A couple of examples
POLICY BEFORE ROLLOUT
A rollout that stalled
Problem
An organization had bought AI licences, but the rollout stopped because nobody could say what staff were allowed to do with them. People were either avoiding the tool or using it without guidance.
Work
Before any training, we settled the ground rules: which data could go into the tool, who had access to what, and how questions would get answered.
Outcome
A clear, short rule set that unblocked the rollout. Training followed later as its own engagement.
ONE BROKEN WORKFLOW
A monthly report bottleneck
Problem
A monthly reporting process took far longer than it should and held up the work that depended on it.
Work
We mapped the process step by step, found the parts where AI could genuinely help, and rebuilt only those, leaving the rest alone.
Outcome
One fixed workflow, documented so the team could run it without me.
A few things people ask
It depends on the work. A tool comparison might take a couple of weeks, and a rollout plan or a workflow rebuild usually takes longer. You’ll have a rough timeline in the written scope before anything starts.
No. Consulting stands on its own. Plenty of engagements start and finish without any ongoing work, and that’s fine.
Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini, plus newer tools as they come up. I don’t resell any of them, so my recommendation is based on what fits your work.
Nothing formal. It helps to know roughly what the problem is and who it affects. If there’s a document, report or process involved, having an example on hand is useful but not required.
Each engagement is scoped individually, so cost is set after the consult and confirmed in writing before any work begins.
NEXT STEP
Not sure which one you need?
That’s a completely normal place to start — and it’s exactly what the free consult is for. Bring the problem as you understand it, and we’ll figure out from there whether it’s a training conversation, a consulting project, or something else entirely.
